Owner, Admissions Director
At Talisman Camps, we create amazing camp experiences where kids can truly be themselves. Do you want your son or daughter to have a great time and make new friends? We can help! You will be astounded to hear about your child’s new friendships, even if making friends has been historically a challenge. Want an environment that encourages social development and improved pragmatic communication? We’ve got you covered! Our camp’s structure and routine help campers feel safe practicing communication with fellow campers and developing new social skills.
Your child will create lasting memories at Talisman Programs, the best summer camp experience for youth with high-functioning Autism, ADHD, and Learning Disorders (LDs).
According to the American Camp Association, participating in a camp experience not only “enriches lives” but can also “change the world” (https://www.acacamps.org/campers-families/because-camp/benefits-camp). Parents can expect their child or loved one to experience five outcomes: increases in “self-identify, self-worth, self-esteem, leadership, and self-respect”. At Talisman, we have a summer program for nearly every kind of child, teen, or young adult looking for a traditional camp experience. From the moment our campers step onto our campus in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina, they are met with caring and experienced staff and quickly meet/rejoin fellow campers and potential new, lifelong friends.
A Time for Your Child. A Time for You.
Talisman Programs has been offering specialized summer camps for youth with learning disorders, high-functioning autism, and ADHD for over 40 years. It is a place where kids can get outside and enjoy themselves, all while building skills, which is what makes camp so beneficial (https://www.ourkids.net/camp/benefits-of-summer-camp.php). Our owners have worked with kids, teens, and young adults for many years. Sharing our summers together and making new friendships, as well as building on old ones, make this such a rewarding experience for campers and staff alike. As Talisman Camps offers specific programming for our campers’ needs, rather than operating a mainstream camp and “including” neurodiverse youth, families can rest assured that their children will be engaged, accepted, and a welcome partner in their camp experience. They will have trained staff who understand the needs of different campers experiencing learning differences and can make appropriate accommodations for each individual. Neurodiverse kids can, and should, experience all the same benefits of camp as their neurotypical peers – and they will with Talisman! They will gain confidence and independence through structured events, push their physical abilities, and emerge successful in their newfound skills. Involving your child in his or her camp search can be a beneficial step, according to KidsHealth, and we encourage you to reach out to discuss options for the summer ahead (https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/finding-camp-special-needs.html )!
At Talisman Programs, we are truly passionate about what we do and we know our programming can be extremely beneficial for your family. We love seeing smiling faces, cheers of excitement, and friendships grow. As a result, we look forward to summer all year long!
