A Social Skills Program that Works
Our social skills program can help your son
Talisman Semesters is an academic and social skills program for middle to high school-aged boys. We can help your son improve his social, academic, and independent living skills. In our social skills program, our boys increase their self-confidence as they build social competence.
Our social curriculum focuses on honing abilities in communicating, making friends, resolving differences, and working cooperatively. As our students master interpersonal skills, they become more confident in approaching new situations and building positive relationships.
Who do we help?
Talisman Semesters work with boys who are struggling socially and academically. Often boys come to us frustrated, discouraged, angry, and lonely. We offer them a safe and nurturing environment where they are accepted and guided through their growth within our social skills program.
Our typical students have characteristics such as:
- Male 12-17 years old
- Grades 7-12
- Full-scale IQ 85 or higher
- Diagnosed with Autism or ADHD
- Difficulty with transitions
- Socially awkward
- Concrete thinker
- Sensory integration issues
- Frustrated with school
- Age-appropriate verbal ability
How we differ from other social skills programs
Talisman has been providing help to adolescents with autism spectrum disorder and ADHD for over 35 years. Through our decades of experience, we’ve learned what helps these adolescents the most. Our staff are trained, experienced, and passionate about helping others live healthy, independent, and full lives. We intentionally keep our program small in to allow us to focus on each individual’s needs and provide our students with a manageable environment.
In our social skills program, we strive to make learning fun, engaging, and connected to our students’ real lives and the things that matter to them. Semester-long enrollment allows our students to develop solid relationships. Every day, our small student groups work, play and learn together, sharing in community life and the many lessons presented each day. We aim to teach our students lifelong skills that promote independent living and transfer from our program back into the home and community, so that they may succeed in whatever they choose to pursue.
